Hannah joined Coleg y Cymoedd in 2021 and became Director of People and Culture in January 2023, where she leads the college’s people strategy, EDI and organisational development. Prior to this, Hannah was an HR consultant for eight years working across numerous sectors and industries. She has a particular interest in trauma-informed approaches to assessment and in improving access to psychological care for autistic individuals. This presentation provides an overview of creating truly inclusive educational environments where neurodivergent learners can flourish. We'll explore key principles of neurodiversity-affirming practice, moving beyond awareness to action. The session will emphasise the importance of understanding individual strengths, fostering positive learning identities, and building collaborative partnerships between educators, families, and support professionals. We will also give practical examples of how these principles are applied within The Haven, an online school designed specifically for neurodivergent learners.
Following that your lead professional will write a full report, with outcomes. This report will be sent to you with full list of recommendations that may be helpful for educators or employers or yourself and your family. The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS 2 ; face to face assessment), which is observed and double scored for reliability purposes. The ADOS-2 is carried out with the child / person and involves talking and playing games. The assessment is typically carried out by a Clinical Psychologist and other professional specialised in ADOS 2 or ADI-r or 3di assessments.
The funding will extend the work of the National Neurodivergence Improvement Programme and support for the National Neurodivergence Team, to work with the NHS to drive improvement across Wales for a further two years to March 2027. The aim of the initial screening is to identify if you may have a neurodiversity or also known as ‘Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)’ – this term covers conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and ADHD. The below guidance aims to focus on what to expect after an initial screening or full assessment via the PSW service. While not a medical diagnosis, your assessment gives you your first roadmap, signposting you to any neurodiversity traits you may have and helping you to determine which diagnosis to pursue if needed.
