If you’re really looking to stretch your legs, you can add on an additional 7 miles roundtrip to the secluded Upper Lena Lake and spectacular views of Mount Bretherton and Mount Lena. Grand Valley contains a beautiful chain of alpine lakes, all easily accessible from Obstruction Point. Permits for this area are competitive, though, so make sure to apply in advance. Head South on the Grand Pass trail, following Lillian Ridge and taking in views of wildflowers and mountains all around, and then drop steeply down into Grand Valley. There are three different campgrounds to choose from, each next to a gorgeous lake. Stay for one night for a quick weekend trip, or stay tw0 nights and relax next to a lake on the middle day or hike up to Grand Pass for amazing views further to the South.

This time, we turned left, and it wasn’t long before the graceful bridge came into view. Finally, as the trail twisted and turned through knotty tree roots, we came to the confluence where Four Stream meets the North Fork Skokomish. While the trail appears to continue along Four Stream, it becomes even brushier and harder to follow, making this a good turnaround point. It’s a secluded, pretty spot, with room to rest by the rushing stream. Pets are not allowed on trails in Olympic National Park.
The drive to the Hoh Rainforest is four hours from Seattle and a bit longer from Portland, at 4.75 hours. Just know the lush, moody vibes you see in videos of the Hoh Rainforest won’t be there if you visit after weeks or months of no rain. Be prepared to hike over headland trails during high tides.

One thing that can really impact how much you enjoy your trip is the weather. Hurricane Ridge, WA is a completely different ecosystem and has very different weather from the nearby coastal areas. So knowing the current weather conditions is key.
Just remember to bring a flashlight if you’ll be leaving after dark. Second Beach is a popular place to camp overnight and is highly recommended if you have the time.
